Exactly one week until Christmas. Things are getting busy as usual. Extra shopping, cooking and chores paired with double the social engagements equals very busy days... but in a good way.
Gnome production is winding down. They were definitely my Etsy hit this season. I think the shop will be quiet through January. Then I've got some new (and bigger ideas) hopefully to be ready for February.
Well someone decided our stockings were too small (They actually were quite narrow). So we needed new ones. I whipped these up tonight in just over two hours. They're not totally perfect but the will totally do their job in 12days! Best part is that I had these fabrics and buttons already so they didn't cost anything and didn't require a trip to the store in the crappy weather we're having here.
I noticed while we were decorating for Christmas that we hardly have anything red. Then I realized I never use red in my home. And I only have one red article of clothing. I don't think that I dislike red, but I guess I have an adversion to it in my own environment. I am definitely a green and brown girl. (note the use of green and subtle use of brown in the stockings) Well here's my attempt to bring a little red into our lives at Christmas!
I've crocheted my first doll. She'll be a Christmas gift for a very little girl I haven't even met yet. Skylar Evelyn was born just last Thursday. Skylar's Mom appreciates hand made gift. I hoping she takes after her Mom. I guess it'll be kind of hard to tell though until she gets a little older. Anyway, here's my creation, blond and blue eyed much like I anticipate Skylar will be.

I think I'm going to have to make this kitty a smaller version for Christmas too. The night I finished this doll she was kidnapped by a certain green eyed feline and I had to steal her back in the morning. Luckily she was unharmed.
If you like this doll and want to make your own the pattern is available here along with plenty of other really cute patterns.
PS- you might notice the "Two Dunces," prints in the background of the middle pict. They came from one of my favorite blogger/ crafters "The Black Apple."
We're going to our first holiday party of the season so I decided to make some S'mores Bars to bring. I like S'mores but I think these bars are even better. Something magical happens when you add additional butter and sugar to grahm crackers. Here's what they look like.
in the pan
and cut up into bars.
Here's how you make them:
1-Mix
2 cups grahm cracker crumbs
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 stick of unsalted butter, melted
2-press the mixture (saving 1 cup for topping) firmly into a 13 x 9 x 2" baking dish and bake for twelve minutes in a 350 degree oven
3-melt one pound of chocolate over a double boiler and spread over baked grahm cracker crust
4-sprinkle four cups of mini marshmallows over the melted chocolate and press them in slightly, then sprinkle the remaining one cup of grahm cracker mixture on top
5-place pan under the broiler for about 30 seconds to puff and brown the marshmallows
Let cool completely before cutting bars
Thanks to a very special friend I am eagerly awaiting a package containing this!
It a slightly late wedding present that is SO worth the wait! I can't wait to sit on my couch and see her looking back at me! (It's got to be a "her," right?)
If you'd like to get your own you can snatch one up here.
It's that time again. The time to drive two hours to middle of nowhere NY, tailgate in the freezing cold and end the life of a pine tree. Me and my five tree chopping companion went yesterday, to Bell's Christmas Tree Farm. This is what happened...
tailgating...
the kill...
Tim wept but we told him it would be ok. The trees would go to a greater cause...
Six very satisfied customers that returned with three trees...
But not before visiting an old friend.
