Hooray for Surprise Deliveries

I had totally forgotten that I ordered a few crafting/ decorating/ gardening books so I was confused when I found a descent sized package in my mail yesterday. Oncer I realized what it was I was as happy as if I'd received a gift (which I kind of did...from myself).

There was one standout book amongst the group. It's called "Sew Pretty Homestyle," by Tone Finnanger.  It  was originally published in Norway under the title "Tildas Hus," but thankfully republished in English.

A shot of the cover which gives you a good feel for what you'll find inside. Very sweet and girly, but also has a ton of instruction.

I think this cat is very sweet. There is also a dog, bear and angel version in the book. This may be my first project out of this book. I'm thinking of creating a Valentines cat whose frock would read "love," instead of "cat." Tone mentions in the book that the embroidered the word cat on the dress because she wasn't sure if it was obvious that this doll was supposed to be a cat. I'm going to say yes...it's pretty apparent.

Not the world's greatest photo but here is the page showing what Tone calls her "hobby room." It just looks so cozy and I love the geraniums in the window.

And just as soon as I get some felted wool I'll be trying out this slipper pattern. Throughout the book there are many pairs of these scattered in different rooms all beautifully embellished. There is a section on embroidery that's pretty inspiring and she's included templates for all her flowers and whimsically written words.

When i was looking for the Amazon link to include at the top of the post I discovered Tone also has books on Springtime crafting and Christmas crafting. I'm thinking I'm probably going to have to look into those as well.

Happy New Year!

It's been a little while since my last post but with Christmas and New Years time just flew by. My Christmas was awesome (I got a print Gocco...more about that later)!

Then two days later I had a lovely annual get together with some great girl friends. We drank wine, ate plenty of good snacks, gossiped and exchanged small gifts. It was really nice to just chill with friends after the busy-ness of Christmas.

I received two Amy Butler books for Christmas.

Here's a sneak peak inside "Midwest Modern," which is my favorite of the two. It's the more recent one and shows a lot more of Amy's patterns and fabrics. Excuse the glare, they are glossy books!

Then for New Years a group of eleven of us went to VT for four days. We had a great house that had a fireplace, wood burning stove and a hot tub. Everyone did a good job of splitting duties such as cooking, cleaning and building a fire.

We got snow dumped on us and went to Stratton two days. I snowboarded (poorly, but it was still fun). Games, both drinking and regular, were played. There was an impromptu dance party, some hot tubbin', karaoke and plenty of good times. This pict may not totally sum it up, but it's one of my favorites from the weekend. Enjoy... and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Life after Sex and the City

If you've been missing something since Carrie Bradshaw abandoned us (the chopped up syndicated version doesn't count) I found a healthy fix. Lipstick Jungle by Candice Bushnell.

Lpstck

It's focused around three high powered women living in the big city. They deal with similar issues as our old friends, but these ladies just have a lot more money. You can get the book here.

Apparently Ms. Bushnell's done it again and the characters from this book will be getting their own television show set to air this fall on NBC. I'm sure the format will be pretty similar to Sex and the City because these three women tend to meet up often for food and drinks and gossip. I'll try not to get my hopes up too much though since this is network television...and Aidan Shaw isn't part of this story :(
